CONCACAF made the decision yesterday to interrupt the women's U-17 World Cup Qualifiers Tournament in Nicaragua. A competition that was to determine the three teams of the Confederation (Central, North America and the Caribbean) who will participate in the U-17 World Cup in Uruguay next November.
Six meetings have already been held in Managua, the capital of the country, allowing Haiti and Mexico to qualify for the semi-finals. But the ongoing clashes in Nicaragua and especially in the capital have pushed CONCACAF to postpone the rest of the competition. Indeed protests have been going on for several days against a pension reform challenged by part of the population. There are now more than twenty dead in the country killed in clashes, with the local government under pressure.
A context that led to the postponement of the competition to a later date that remains to be determined today.
