The International Champions Cup (ICC), a pre-season tournament that brings together every summer since 2013 major European men's teams, has decided to feminize. Indeed, tournament organizers announced the creation of a women's tournament for the summer of 2018. This first women's edition of the ICC will take place in Florida and will bring together four teams: Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, the franchise American North Carolina Courage and a fourth club still unknown.
This is how this pre-season tournament will be played. Two round-robin semi-finals will be held on July 27, followed by a third-place game and final on July 29 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. If the identity of the fourth team is still unknown, three clubs would be part of a short-list to participate: Chelsea, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. For 2019, the organizers hope to increase from four to eight participating teams and from eight to sixteen for 2020.
