The Morbihan city of Ploërmel is expected to become the base camp of a national team, during the U20 World Cup to be held in Brittany from August 5th to 24th.
In the department of Morbihan, halfway between Vannes and Saint-Malo, is Ploërmel. This summer, the small town of 7,526 inhabitants could become a small attraction. According to our colleagues at Actu.fr, Ploërmel would be expected to become a base camp at the next U20 World Cup to be held in Brittany (these matches will be held in Vannes, Saint-Malo, Concarneau and Dinan-Léhon). The elected officials of the city are in any case in contact with FIFA since last September.
The location of the small town of Morbihan is indeed an undeniable asset. "We are close to the cities welcoming games, we can receive people by high speed lines, we are close to airports," said Stéphane Simon, delegate city councilor for sports, interviewed by Actu.fr. Already in 2016, Ploërmel was almost a base camp at the men's Euro in France.
The 2019 World Cup in sight?
A priori, the city would host only one national team next summer (we do not know which one) and not two. "These are additional means whether in logistics, material or human, justified Stephane Simon, always for Actu.fr.I made the decision to take a single selection provided they keep the second on the sector, it will be surely Mauron or Campénéac, we are waiting for the answer. " And to add: "It is better to receive a selection, only two moderately."
By becoming an actress of this U20 World Cup, Ploërmel could also place for the great World Cup, that of 2019 in France (from June 7 to July 7). This time, the proximity to Roazhon Park Rennes would be the asset retained by FIFA. The city of Rennes will host seven matches during this competition, including one from the France team.
