It was reunion time in the Cascarino family. After playing against each other on Sunday in the league, Delphine and Estelle were reunited again, this time under the same jersey that of the team of France, which prepares its friendly match against Italy. A blue color that has succeeded in recent years among young people, and that Delphine finds a year after his long left knee injury.
Hearts of Foot - For starters, Delphine, what are the sensations today. In 2017 you had a long injury. Where are you today?
Delphine Cascarino - It's much better, frankly I have resumed my feelings. I am very happy.
"There to be against each other, we had never imagined that. "
CDF - For you Estelle, it seems that the team [Paris FC] looks better this season, compared to last season ...
Estelle Cascarino - Yes, this year it's going well. I play, I'm happy (...) There was change, and we needed changes. This year, there is really a new dynamic, it feels good, the group feels good, it lives well so necessarily it's better.
CDF - Last weekend, you were face to face in the league. How was it to be in this situation? Delphine, you have the opportunity to hurt your sister a little on the right side?
D.C - No, not too much. I was pretty uncomfortable with her, as she knows me. I tried, sometimes of ... but it did not happen.
E.C - Yes, once or twice, it's over. [Meeting face to face], it was weird. We used to play together. There to be against each other, we had never imagined that. It was a good experience to live on even if you prefer to be in the same team rather than one against the other.
"It's a bit of a dream come true"
CDF - And today, it's a little reunion in Blue, again reunited under the same jersey, and especially in France team ...
D.C - It's amazing to be here, we made all the young selections together, so we did not have the goal of ending up in A, and that's the end. Now, we hope to stay there.
E.C - It's a bit of a dream come true. We hope that it will last as long as possible.
CDF - Do you give advice between you, whether on the field, or more generally about football?
D.C - Not too much, we do not give too much advice.
E.C - Not too much advice. She is a little more behind me, [because she] is a little more organized than me, so she gives me some advice. She moves me a bit, but otherwise ...
D.C - It's more in life ...
E.C - ... In everyday life
CDF - But not on the ground?
D.C - No
E.C - No, not at all
CDF - Estelle, you were defending against your sister on Sunday. How far do you see yourself going to stop him from going? to tackle, for example, to make mistakes ...
D.C - Anecdote
E.C - A little anecdote. In U17, in selection, we were in the same team for once. But in training, we were opponents and I tapped and I actually hurt him. Without doing so of course. So I hurt his ankle
D.C - There you go, and I was hurt for a week. (laughs of the two sisters)
"At the team level, we had a good osmosis. "
CDF - 2016 had been a great year for both, especially in the selection, what do you remember from that year?
D.C - The World Cup, very happy with our race despite our defeat in the final.
E.C - Frankly, the World Cup was a great adventure, exceptional, rich in emotions, whether in football or even humanly. Frankly, that's really what I will remember personally.
D.C - Same (...) There, we were very well received, and even at the team level, we had a good osmosis.
CDF - For you Delphine, it was also the victory in the Champions League with Lyon?
D.C - Yes, in 2016, I also won the Champions League, that too, it marked me. It was really amazing.
CDF - Estelle, how did you experience this Delphine European title?
E.C - Obviously, it makes you want to play the Champions League. It's motivating, it's moving forward, so it's a good thing. The further it goes, the more it makes me want to go far. That's how we get motivated a bit. (to Delphine) Keep playing the Champions League (laughs). In club, it's the best.
"It's like a revenge on myself"
CDF - We'll talk about your injury, Delphine, long injury. It was a year ago, during an internship of the team of France in Reunion. Now that you have found the grounds, what is your view of what happened to you?
D.C - It's like a revenge on myself. I hurt myself while I was climbing. But it did not demotivate me so much. That's it, I'm here today, I'm really happy to be back in France.
CDF - At the time, the staff of OL had pointed out that you had played a lot, maybe too much. Do you think that's what played in what happened to you with the injury?
D.C - After me, if I had been asked if I wanted rest ... I was in the middle of things as they say, and I would have refused. I want to play every game and suddenly, frankly, there is no real culprit. I wanted to play several competitions, I could not refuse.
CDF - More and more, it is true also for boys, we have the impression that we ask a lot of young people, as soon as a player, a little like you, begins to "explode". In recent months, especially with the injury, that may be, we win patience, just not want to grill the stages?
D.C - Yes, of course. To say that we got hurt while we were on the rise, that's sure to make you think.
E.C - It was three years ago now. I had a long injury. It certainly reinforces the mind and it encourages not too much to burn the steps, pay attention to his body, to manage the efforts. In the end, it's a plus, once you're back.
CDF - How did you react in these situations, it was the discouragement or immediately the will to go up the slope?
D.C - At the time, we say to ourselves: "How could this happen to me? It always happens to others and it happens to me! Well, it's not inevitable, we get up. In Lyon, I was lucky to have a good medical staff. I also had the chance to go to Clairefontaine. It went really well and today everything is fine.
E.C - You have to be patient, especially when you come back. And little by little, we find his level, simply. It does not fly. The gains come back as time goes by.
"We were caught in the spiral of football, our parents with"
CDF - We also see that your relatives, parents are very present at your side ...
D.C - It is true that our parents were really present, especially my mother. It's really a big support and without it, I do not think we'd be here today
E.C - Yes, really the whole family. They are behind us. We are really lucky. Supported, motivated. (...) From the moment we decided to play football, they are 300% behind us. It would have been the same if we had done basketball or ping-pong. (...) Football, we did without thinking about tomorrow. We did it, and the more we liked it, the more it became important, and we were caught in the spiral of football, our parents with, and let's go what.
CDF - The French team debut is an important step in a career, how are you living this, with these first selections in Blue?
D.C - Of course, the France team is the very very high level. And any sportsman, I think, dreams one day, to reach the very high level, to play for his country. We had the chance to live as young people and we had the objective to live in A and here we are very happy.
E.C - Exactly, it's a pride, a dream, both a dream and a goal. So inevitably, when it happens, we are very proud and very happy. We will give everything to continue working and why not go to the 2019 World Cup.
CDF - Finally, we will talk about Italy, and the match of Saturday. How do you see this team, do you already know it?
D.C - I do not know this team very well. After, we had the opportunity to play it in young people. It's a team that looks like us, very technical, who plays well ball. It's going to be a good match.
E.C - It's a team [that is] so aggressive, that can not be done, so it's not an easy team to play. It's going to be an interesting match, I think.
