This Sunday, December 6, Montpellier received the Lyonnaises at the Mama-Ouattara stadium and managed to hold the leader in check, with a draw, 0-0, on the 11th day. An almost unexpected result as the Lyonnaises had dominated this beginning of the championship, yet the Montpellier did it!
We expected a lot from this meeting between the two teams that occupy the first two places of the D1 Women's Championship. Both Montpellier and Lyon have conceded no defeat until now. The Lyonnaises were even better with 10 wins in 10 league games, while Montpellier conceded a draw 0-0 against Paris Saint-Germain.
The game will not have been the most intense in terms offensive since in the first half, there are very few opportunities frank. It should be noted however that a free-kick from Louisa Necib, OL midfielder, was out by the goalkeeper of the MHSC, Laetitia Philippe.
The first half ends on this draw and blank.
We hope that the second period will be different, yet it will not be the case. Both teams send each other, but can not find the fault!
Louisa Necib again gets the best opportunity with a free kick that hits the crossbar in the 62nd minute.
This new opportunity early in the second period will not unlock the situation. Lyon will not be able to score even with the entry into play of Eugenie Le Sommer instead of Lotta Schelin.
For once, a rare time, the attackers of Lyon will remain silent. The Lyonnaises thus lose points, it had not happened January 18, 2014 (!) When the PSG had won 1-0 on the ground Lyon. Almost two years later, Lyon is getting points in D1 Female. A rare fact, almost new! However on the ranking side, Lyon remains leader with 42 points.
Montpellier remains in second place with this excellent result with 40 points. The Montpellier confirm their good start to the season and is positioned as a strong candidate in the Champions League but also in the title ... Montpellier can surely dream higher ?!
Next week Lyon will receive the VGA Saint-Maur, if the strike of the players Saint-Mauriennes is not renewed. As for Montpellier, it will be a new home match against the red lantern, Nîmes, who still has not won a single game this season.
