Only coach of a D1 Feminine club, Sarah M'Barek gave us her feelings on the match Metz / Guingamp this Wednesday. But we also talked about this topic, the mix that is lacking in the elite championship of women's football in France. Interview.
We see that it's still a disappointment this draw for you?
Yes yes it is sure that if we follow the logic of the championship, we always say that in the last we must make a result. Now looking a little bit the face of the match, we are doing well, we still leave with a point. This is our second match in three days, with a trip of more than 10 hours by bus. These are the legs were not necessarily there today. Success, too, is like that. Now certainly it remains a disappointment but not an end in itself. We will continue to work, it will allow to put some things clear and need it from time to time.
Yes you made a change in the second half with the entry of Lea Le Garrec, it has a little unlocked the situation for Guingamp?
Yes after Louise struggled to get into her match, it was complicated so I chose to take her out and bring in Lea. It was the cool option for the second half because I knew we were going to miss it. We open the score and we are a little less dominated in the game but it's true that they had more opportunities than us anyway.
We know that today in D1, you are the only female coach and we also read an article from So Foot that explains that you want more women in this area, that there is more homogeneity in D1. It's a beautiful thing in itself?
(smile) Yes, if I can give vocations, or in any case aspire to motivate some girls or women, of course it's a beautiful thing in itself.
How are we doing to get there, to give this vocation? We know that the FFF also has this desire to train these future coaches. Is there a lack of will in girls?
No I think it happens, give them time. There may be a hollow there, with a generation where we are few. Even among my players, there are quite a few who train small or football school and really I think that in a few years, there will be many women coaches, first division I hope.
Do not you feel that, the fact that it is the women who are reluctant to this vocation to see female coaches at the head of the club?
No, I think that on that side, mentalities have evolved too. As a player like this, I was a little apprehensive to have a woman coach but I think that from this point of view, it has still evolved. After that it's a problem of skills, motivation and training because there are still diplomas to pass. I think it's still feasible [to coach for a woman] with a good staff, with men (smile). It is enough to have some complementarity in the club, but it is possible.
Yes, as you say, you have been an international team in France. It is an asset to be a coach of a female team of the elite according to you, it gives another vision of football or it is not essential?
No, I think it's important, of course, to have an experience [as a player]. I use it from time to time anyway, to be able to justify certain things, to be able to communicate with the players. (smile) Now it's not the only thing that matters. The experience of coach is also very important, the experience that has stored in this position, it is sure that it is already an asset.
At the beginning of the season we contacted you to talk a bit about your past season, how you see this new season. Today you are a little bit of a sweep of this exercise and take precisely this period to strengthen you as you had told us. That's pretty good for you right now?
Yes quite. It is true that people outside were worried about the many departures. But we had prepared and anticipated all that so we were not necessarily worried. Now it's true that we are happy with the way the season is going. We had not thought of doing so well. It gives us a lot of desire to do even better. Here we prepared the young, we insist on training and then we brought back players who could bring a plus to the group. At the level of the state of mind so far, I think it's our strength and that's why we have these results.
"It's good, it means that the championship is strengthening"
Now when you see that a promoted is 4th, does it touch your pride, do not you feel a little late on the ambitions?
No, they may be on the rise. The hardest thing is often to confirm, you know. We also have the case where we were great [2014/2015] and the season after [2015/2016] we played the maintenance. From one season to another, things are going very fast. Now I am not surprised to see Marseille at this level because when we played them even if we win 4-0 at home, I found the team rather solid. But that's good, it means that the championship is strengthening and that suddenly it will advance the French women's championship. This is the most important thing (smile) I think.
Last question, how do you see the rest of your season there just a month after the recovery?
Yes we are on the return matches, it is true that we will be expected. It will have to prove and confirm as I told you earlier. Now we work day after day. Basically, the first step is the maintenance, then the second it will be to get the best place possible and especially to continue to progress to be better from year to year.
