Despite a perfect comeback on paper, with two wins in two games, when we talk about the future of the Blue: we feel like a malaise. What is stopping this team from taking a step forward, going ahead, to forget about the World Cup in Canada and focus on the Olympics and the Euro? Koralee Cano, one of our editors, looked into the question!
End of the right passes, the beginning of the revolution?
Interviewed in the mixed zone, at the end of the meeting which opposed the team of France to the Brazilian selection, Philippe Bergeroo, the tricolor coach, recalled his interest for the meritocracy.
We will all remember this defeat against Colombia, during the group stage, which led to the ouster, Gaëtane Thiney and Louisa Necib, in the starting lineup to face Mexico.
If the gesture of mood of Lyonnaise, had largely been mediatised, since occurred in full match; only a handful of elements are available regarding the "quarantine" of Captain de Juvisy.
And yet, since his failed attempt against Germany in the quarterfinal, the number 17 seems in disgrace within the group while this quarterfinal was lost on penalties.
Was it an ideal culprit to forget a painful elimination, an arbitration more than questionable and a whole series of bad choices on the part of the staff? Far from unanimous supporters, it is from the bench that the attacker 127 selections, followed France - Brazil last Saturday in Le Havre. Last night, after singing the Marseillaise side of his teammates in club, contrary to what some say, she joined the rostrum to attend the match against Romania.
Finding the responsible would almost forget the notion of collective sport when it comes to football ... It is clear that behind the post-match statements, hides a whole gray area around which different actors gravitate.
What really happened in Canada?
Why and how a team, favorite on paper, leaves the competition at the doors of the podium? Like so many questions that will remain unanswered; yet there is one that would have the merit of being asked in a press conference: what is the share of responsibility of the French staff in this early elimination? By dint of seeing the players recognize their shortcomings, one would almost wonder if the human management of the group has not completely escaped some, ultimately lead everyone right in the wall.
By digging further, one can even realize that finish 1st of the group, allowed a very likely qualification to the J.O and therefore certainty for Philippe Bergeroo as to his future at the head of the Blue, to the detriment of that of his team.
So, have we really gone beyond the limits of personal ambition? It's hard to say, but when we talk about a merit-based tenure, we tend to check in detail the latest performances of these players who deserve so much to play or not ... Of course, we do not attend all training, but without wanting to replace the coach, we will have to explain why some choices sound so wrong! Far from us the idea to ensure the defense of some, whose attitude should have been sanctioned for a long time, but why call in selection of players whose presence is no longer desired? Keep this very smooth image of the national team where everything is going well? No one believes it!
Once again questioned about this in a press conference, after France vs Romania, the "boss" of the team of France evaded the subject: "I was asked to prepare the future. I stay in my logic. There was no explanation. ". In the Blue, we can discard a player, without explaining why, normal ... Nevertheless, these statements suggest that the heart of the problem lies in the management of the human.
My balance sheet
It seems that one can not rewrite the pass, but only learn from one's mistakes to prepare oneself to face the future. What could happen worse to French women's football, than to attend the international retreat of a high-level sportswoman, before her 30th birthday, for non-sporting reasons? In saying that he was not there to be loved, Philippe Bergeroo, confirms one of his greatest achievements since taking office; we would have preferred a trophy in a window of the FFF.
Maybe by focusing on sports preparation, conducive to performance, rather than the media exposure, favorable to individualism, today France proudly display a 1st international title after each victory?
To find his place among the Blue, it will take a lot of envy to Gaëtane Thiney and rather than words, acts strong to remind those who doubt, how it would be illogical to do without so much talent in the Blue at the dawn of the Rio Olympics.
