The Caribbean in the spotlight in 2018
Twenty years later, it's time for Reggae Girlz to prepare to join France for the World Cup. A qualification that is a new sign of the emergence of Caribbean teams after Haiti's participation in the last U20 World Cup. Jamaica will be the first team in the West Indies to take part in a Women's World Cup in the A.

The Jamaican players validated their qualification by winning the match for the 3rd place of the Gold Cup, the CONCACAF Cup which also serves as a qualifying tournament for the World Cup. They won against Panama in a game that was played on penalties (2-2, 2-4 tab). Jamaica scored twice, first through Khadija Shaw (13).

Panama came back in the second period by Vanessa Mills (73) pushing Jamaica into overtime. It is again Jamaica who takes the advantage by Jody Brown (95th) before the equalization of Lineth Cedeno five minutes before the end of the extension (115th).

Winning coaching
In the penalty shootout, Jamaica won 4-2, after changing goalkeeper at the end of extra time. A paying choice since Nicole McClure made two decisive stops while Dominique Flasza-Bond, the player of PSV Eindhoven gives a definite advantage to his team. Jamaica joins the United States and Canada already qualified for the World Cup.

For Panama, this defeat does not mean the end of the hopes of Mondial. The Central American players will play a barrage in November (home and away) against Argentina for the last American team qualified for the 2019 World Cup in France.

USA win 8th CONCACAF Cup
At the end of the qualification of Jamaica, the final of the Gold Cup was disputed between the United States and Canada. A meeting won 2-0 by the United States on the lawn of Toyota Park in the suburbs of Dallas. The players of Jill Ellis took the advantage in the second minute of play by Rose Lavelle, on a ball pushed back in the axis by the Canadian defense.

In a very committed game, the faults and the cards dealt were more numerous than the real chances of goals. Even led to the score, Canada was not able to destabilize the United States who remained the most dangerous team throughout the game. At the end of the match, Alex Morgan seals the victory of the USA, on a center of Lindsey Horan that it takes again in the six meters following a corner (89th)

This is the eighth US victory in a CONCACAF Cup, a tournament in which world numbers have suffered only one defeat since the creation of the event in the early 1990s. the USA finish the event with a new trophy and without conceding a goal.
